The transformer takes a bit of time, so don't get in a hurry if you want a smooth finish.
I first applied a lite skim of Bondo Glazing Putty (found in your automotive store)
It was then block sanded, primed and painted. Several light coates of paint works best to avoid runs.

Note the thumb screws and right angle brackets on the right. These are what will hold the chassis to the base.
